The Role

A Social Care Worker is an incredibly rewarding role that offers you the chance to make a real and lasting difference to people’s lives. At Choice Care, you’ll work with vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions, helping them to live safe, happy, independent lives.

You’ll be part of a dedicated and passionate team, working for one of the UK’s leading care providers. It will be your job to help provide a caring, supportive, environment where people are treated with dignity and respect. It can be hard work, but helping amazing people to progress brings a unique sense of achievement.

What does a Social Care Worker do?

The support you provide will depend on the people you work with - and no two days will ever be quite the same. But in general, your role is likely to include:

  • Helping to meet the emotional, physical, psychological and social needs of the people you support.
  • Supporting people’s basic healthcare needs, including helping with medicines and arranging routine appointments.
  • Helping to prepare meals and supervise mealtimes.
  • Assisting with day care activities and hobbies.
  • Organising trips and getting involved in outings, like going bowling, to the cinema or the pub.
  • Communicating with relatives, and involving them in their loved ones’ care.
  • Helping to keep accurate records and contributing to assessments and reviews.

Where will I work?

Rowan Cottage is a large, bungalow-style house, converted from two, previously semi-detached properties, in the village of Burghfield, five miles south west of Reading. The home provides residential support for eight men of varying ages with mild to moderate learning disabilities, autism and associated complex needs.

What experience do I need?

Starting out as a Social Care Worker is about people not qualifications. You don’t need previous experience, just the right attitude, a desire to help others and a willingness to learn. We’ll give you all the training you need from the day you join, including valuable, transferable skills. Career prospects are great too, with plenty of opportunities to progress within the organisation.

What benefits will I get?

As a Social Care Worker at Choice, you’ll enjoy:

Generous Paid Holiday Entitlement

You’ll get 30 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays).

We’ll contribute 3% on top of your voluntary personal contribution.
