Apprenticeships at Choice Care

If you’re thinking about a career in care, an apprenticeship with Choice Care is the ideal way to build your knowledge and get the experience you need. At Choice you’ll be supporting vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions, helping them to live safe, happy, independent lives. You’ll be part of a structured programme, working full time alongside experienced staff.

While you’re with us, you’ll be working towards a nationally-recognised qualification and you’ll earn while you learn on a full adult wage. Most importantly, throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll be making a real and lasting difference to the people you support.

What does an Apprentice Social Care Worker do?

The support you provide will depend on the people you work with - and no two days will ever be quite the same. But as you learn, your role is likely to include:

  • Helping to meet the emotional, physical, psychological and social needs of the people you support.
  • Supporting people’s basic healthcare needs, including helping with medicines and arranging routine appointments.
  • Helping to prepare meals and supervise mealtimes.
  • Assisting with day care activities and hobbies.
  • Organising trips and getting involved in outings, like going bowling, to the cinema or the pub.
  • Communicating with relatives, and involving them in their loved ones’ care.
  • Helping to keep accurate records and contributing to assessments and reviews.

Where will I work?

Fairview is a spacious, detached home on a quiet residential street in the village of Baughurst, close to the busy town of Tadley, near Newbury. It supports up to eight men and women with learning disabilities, autism and associated complex needs.

What qualifications do I need?

Apprenticeships are open to anyone over 16, no longer in full time education. You don’t need formal qualifications to apply, we’ll give you all the training necessary from the day you join. Instead, what we look for is a keen interest in the social care sector, a caring and passionate nature and a positive, can-do attitude. You’ll need to be adaptable and willing to learn, prepared to be professional at all times and enjoy working as part of a team.

During your apprenticeship, we’ll help you complete your Care Certificate, QCF Level 2 or above, in Health and Social Care. You’ll also learn Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT. You’ll be guided by a personal assessor, who’ll meet with you regularly to monitor progress and offer support. Apprenticeships last from 12-18 months, after which you’ll be fully-qualified and ready to build your career.

What benefits will I get?
