Heywood Sumner House, is an elegant, detached property, located in the village of South Gorley, in the heart of New Forest, with three acres of beautiful lawns and gardens overlooking the surrounding farmland. The home is steeped with history. Previously owned by George Heywood Maunoir Sumner (1853–1940) an English painter, illustrator and craftsman.
The stunning property is now a large, rural home which has a lively, active personality and offers support to 12 male residents of various ages with Learning Disabilities, Autism and ADHD. Although there are elements of Mental health such as Depression, Bi-polar and Schizophrenia. The age range of the service users is 22 – 69. The staff team are excited to welcome everyone whether they have experience in care or they are just starting and excited to give back.
South Gorley is midway between Fordingbridge and Ringwood, and just 15 minutes from Bournemouth town centre.

What is the role of an Activity Coordinator?
The Role of the Activity Coordinator is to support Adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Mental Health Disorders through developing, planning and implementing an activity programme for our Service Users, including social activities, outgoings, or trips and holidays, all according to their care plan and preferences.
Your role as a Activity Coordinator [but not limited to]:
-Plan, organise and coordinate an activities programme for each service user individually and in groups, according to their needs, interests and abilities
-Manage the Activities budget allocated for the month
- Ensure equality of opportunity for all Service Users
- Assist Positive Behaviour Team with assessing Service User’s skills and abilities, so that tailored activities can be planned
- To act as an escort and/or driver when going out
- Actively participating in scheduled activities
- Occasional providing physical care and support to our Service Users in accordance with each Service User’s care plan, respecting their dignity and preferences. Personal care includes bathing, toileting, dressing and help with feeding
- Assisting and getting involved in Service User’s daily activities, hobbies or outgoings
- Keep in line with all Company’s policies and procedures and Values
- Get to know the people we support and support them to live a safe, happy and fulfilling life
- Develop an open, honest and considerate working relationship with Service Users
- To safeguard and promote the welfare of the people we support
- Keeping accurate written records and ensuring information is shared appropriately with other staff members whilst maintaining confidentiality and data protection requirements in line with CHOICE CARE policies
- Complete, attend and keep up to date with all necessary trainings, as required
- Working as part of a team that strives to support and lift Service Users and each other
- Ensure that people we support and their families are treated with respect, dignity and equality
- Ensure that people we support are safeguarded from abuse and subsequently, report any alleged abuse that you may witness or know of
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene, ensuring the Home is clean, tidy and organised
- Participate in the review and ongoing development of the care plan which is a live document
- Work flexibly across a 7 day rota, including evening and weekend
- To ensure you are wearing the relevant PPE for your shift (provided at the home)
- To supervise and share meal times with Service Users and encourage a positive attitude towards food and dining
- To ensure all equipment within the home is checked including emergency fire equipment.
